Pioneer Days set to return at South Peace Centennial Museum

Jul 15, 2022 | 11:59 AM

After being cancelled for the last two years due to COVID-19, Pioneer Days returns Saturday and Sunday to the South Peace Centennial Museum.

Museum president Dorothy Lieverse says they are very excited to bring the event back.

“The highlights are always the big steam engines, tractor parades, and the old tractors and old vehicles. And of course, now we are working with the farmer’s market so we will have a farmers market there, which is something we have not had in other years.”

According to Lieverse, there will be activities for people of all ages.

“The music will be there. I think just the excitement of getting out and having fun. We have a scavenger hunt for the children, and also we have the old-fashioned stilts for them to walk on.”

“There will also be waving there. A lot of our household events, such as making butter, cottage cheese, and ice cream will not take place this year, due to the lady that normally does it being unable to do it this year. Hopefully, it will be back next year.”

Lieverse adds they are also excited to show off the work that they have done on some of the buildings on site.

“The artifacts building has had a lot of work to it that people have not seen. The trading post right now is a work in progress and it looks a little bit mixed up. The inside of the school has been repainted. We are not finished with the work that has to be done inside there yet but it will still be open to the public. “

Lieverse is also encouraging visitors this weekend to dress up in vintage costumes.

Breakfast kicks off activities both Saturday and Sunday at 8 am, with events going from 10 am to 6 pm.

The South Peace Centennial Museum is located along Highway 43 between Beaverlodge and Hythe.
