Charges dismissed in attempted murder case

Alberta Justice says charges in an attempted murder case have been dismissed.

The charges against Harley Percy Frazier Ferguson and Stacey Horseman had also included discharging a firearm with intent and careless use of a firearm.

Charges against both were dismissed July 6 in Grande Prairie court, the same day a preliminary hearing had been scheduled.

They were arrested in June of 2021 after Beaverlodge RCMP got a report of a shooting at Horse Lake First Nation.

Mounties said at the time that what they called “an interaction” had taken place between a male and female suspect and a 27-year-old man where shots were fired. The 27-year-old was injured and taken to hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Four-year jail term for accused in string of March crimes

Alberta Justice says a Wembley man has been given four years in jail in connection with a string of crimes earlier this year.

Jared Wayne Holland pleaded guilty to charges that include resisting a peace officer, assault with the intent to resist arrest, mischief causing damage over $5000, possession of stolen property over $5000, dangerous operation of a vehicle and flight from a peace officer July 11 in Grande Prairie court.

RCMP said at the time that on January 17, 2022, they were called to a vehicle fire near Range Road 60 and Township Road 700. The vehicle had been stolen in Beaverlodge in November of 2021.

While answering that call, Mounties got another call of another vehicle theft in the same area. They could not locate a suspect.

Police later found a suspect on March 7 in a truck that was inside a barn in a rural area near Wembley. The suspect refused to get out of the truck. The driver then took off through the barn doors and down the highway, striking police vehicles and almost hitting RCMP members on the way.

The truck slowed down in Beaverlodge and the driver tried to get away on foot but was arrested.

Trial dates set in MD of Smoky River drug bust

Alberta Justice says trial dates have been set after a vehicle stop near Falher in April led to the seizure of drugs and weapons.

The trial for Carmen Lamouche of Peace River is set for March 16 and 17, 2023, in Falher.

Lamouche is facing charges that include possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of prohibited weapons, and multiple counts of failure to comply.

McLennan RCMP said at the time that on April 10, 2022, police searched a vehicle after a traffic stop.

Cocaine, methamphetamine, a stolen shotgun that had been altered so that it was a prohibited weapon, and several other weapons were all seized.
