Peace Regional RCMP now say there was no attempted child abduction earlier this week

Jul 21, 2022 | 11:34 AM

Update:

Peace Regional RCMP would like to advise the public that after further investigation, no attempted child abduction occurred.

The alleged suspect was a church volunteer running a children’s day camp, he was trying to encourage kids to join his camp due to low enrolment.

After a photo of him had been circulating on social media, he contacted RCMP and was fully cooperative with the investigation.

Peace Regional RCMP is investigating an attempted child abduction on Whitehead Drive in Woodland Cree Nation.

They are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

It was reported that on Wednesday, July 20, shortly before 3:30 p.m. the suspect stopped at a residence in a dark blue SUV and asked a 5-year-old child playing in their front yard to get into his vehicle to go on vacation.

The suspect then drove off when the child’s mother came outside.

He describes as:

  • Caucasian
  • Possibly in his 60’s
  • Tall, slender build
  • White hair with a beard

Peace Regional Mounties’ investigation so far has led them to believe this same suspect has attempted to lure another group of children into his SUV, and residents don’t believe he lives in the area.

If you have any information regarding this investigation, call the Peace Regional RCMP Detachment at 780-624-6677 or Crime Stoppers.
