Several Peace Region communities receiving provincial grants for local infrastructure

Three different grant programs by the provincial government have approved 78 projects in Budget 2022.

Over $86.1 million has been approved for all the projects this year across Alberta for the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program, Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership and the Water for Life program.

STIP is funding $27.2 million under four different components: Local Road Bridge Program, Resource Road Program, Local Municipal Initiatives and Community Airport Program. Across the province, 45 projects are expected to create 210 new jobs.

Two Peace Region projects are being funded through the Local Road Bridge Program:

  • Birch Hills County – BF 77831 Bridge Rehabilitation – $106,500 funded of $142,000 needed
  • Mackenzie County – BF 81124 Bridge Culvert Replacement and other work – $375,000 funded of $500,000 needed

The MD of Greenview is getting $3 million for their Forestry Trunk Road Phase Six. The total project cost is $8,671,320.

Local Municipal Initiatives in our region:

  • East Prairie getting $3,379,511 for Baker Road Construction, a project costing $6,759,021
  • High Level getting $932,305 for 92 Street Industrial Road Improvement, a project costing $1,864,610
  • High Level getting $580,800 for 114th Avenue Industrial Road Improvement, a project costing $1,161,600

Two airports in the Peace Region are receiving funds through Community Airport Project in STIP:

  • Spirit River will be getting $322,410 of $429,880 needed for lighting upgrades
  • Valleyview will be getting $1,317,728 of $1,756,971 needed for rehabilitation

The Water for Life and AMWWP is supporting 33 projects that will improve wastewater and water services and access to clean drinking water for rural communities.

824 jobs are expected to be created during the construction phases of these projects.

In the Peace Region, Water for Life projects approved are:

  • $2,000,000 funded of $2,222,222 needed in Saddle Hills County – Central Peace Regional Water Supply Project New Regional water treatment plant (design)
  • $1,177,400 funded of $14,500,000 needed in Sexsmith – Aquatera Sedimentation Pond #3

AWWMP approved projects in the Peace:

  • $366,160 funded of $488,213 needed in County of Grande Prairie – La Glace Sewage Lagoon Expansion
  • $805,709 funded of $1,339,500 needed in Beaverlodge – Town of Beaverlodge Raw Water Pumphouse Upgrades
  • $41,314 funded of $55,085 needed in Hythe – Water Supply Management Assessment Study
  • $15,000 funded of $20,000 needed in Hythe -Water Well Monitoring Upgrade
  • $427,500 funded of $570,000 needed in Rycroft – Raw Water Intake Upgrade
  • $2,219,066 funded of $3,499,000 needed in Valleyview – Wastewater Lagoon Upgrade
  • $388,299 funded of $517,732 needed in MD of Fairview – Bluesky Water Treatment Plant Upgrades Phase 2
  • $483,023 funded of $644,031 needed in MD of Fairview – Whitelaw Water Treatment Plant Phase 2
  • $536,906 funded of $715,875 needed for Smoky River Water Management Commission – Smoky River WTP Upgrade
  • $112,500 funded of $150,000 needed for Smoky River Water Management Commission – New Raw Water Intake Feasibility Study
  • $772,728 funded of $1,293,268 needed in High Prairie – Water Treatment Plant Upgrade
  • $1,878,750 funded of $2,644,000 needed in Peavine – Raw Water Intake and WTP Upgrade

Over $21.2 million dollars will be helping the 23 projects in the Peace region through the listed above.
