39-year-old kayaker found deceased near Jasper, Alberta

JASPER, AB – A 39-year-old man was found deceased after going missing while kayaking in Alberta.

At around 1:25 a.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2022, Jasper RCMP received a call from Parks Canada. The agency advised the detachment that they had been dispatched to a complaint of an overdue kayaker in the Sunwapta Falls area, just a few hours prior. The Sunwapta Falls are is about 56 kilometres south of the town of Jasper.

The 39-year-old kayaker was due to meet his driver at the Sunwapta Resort at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022, but he did not meet his driver at the pickup point.

Parks Canada Visitor Safety crews were deployed and found the abandoned kayak. Further downstream, they located the man’s body. The RCMP did not release the name of the deceased.
