Tamara Lich granted bail once again

Jul 26, 2022 | 5:35 PM

Tamara Lich has been granted bail by an Ottawa judge who has overturned a previous bail denial.

Following a day-long bail review hearing yesterday, today Justice Andrew Goodman said, “Ms. Lich you will be released from this courthouse today.” Earlier in July, Justice of the Peace Paul Harris revoked Lich’s bail that had been granted following her initial arrest in February.

Lich, from Medicine Hat, was a central figure in the so-called “Freedom Convoy” to Ottawa in January that became an occupation and gridlocked the nation’s capital for weeks. She was initially arrested in February and granted bail weeks later.

Lich was re-arrested in late June on a Canada-wide warrant requested by the Ottawa Police Service. At that time it was alleged Lich violated her bail conditions by posing with Tom Marazzo at a gala in May to celebrate her role in the so-called “Freedom Convoy.” Marazzo, a fellow organizer of the convoy and occupation, was one of the people Lich was barred from having communications with outside the presence of counsel.

Among the conditions of today’s bail agreement are that Lich must reside in Alberta, have no communications with the same individuals except through defence or civil legal counsel, she is barred from social media and she must not organize, aid or abet public protest with respect to anything related to COVID or the convoy.

Goodman told court today the alleged breach at the gala was not “rationally connected” to the rules set out in the bail order.
