Wildfire rating in the Grande Prairie Forest Area has risen to extreme

Jul 26, 2022 | 7:00 AM

The wildfire rating has raised from high to extreme in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

The jump in the rating is due to the past 24 hours only receiving spotty and isolated rain along with gusty winds.

Fire crews are strategically placed around the Grande Prairie area and are ready to respond to any new fire call.

Under this fire advisory, current fire permits remain valid and new permits will be handed out on a case-by-case basis. Any burning, besides campfires, without a valid permit is prohibited.

Allowed under this advisory:

  • Safe wood campfires
  • Backyard fire pits
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters

Residents should be aware that municipalities, parks, and protected areas may have additional fire safety requirements.

Fire crews would like to remind residents to never leave a campfire unattended and remember the soak, stir, and soak again method.
