Grande Prairie Fire Department gets brand new engine

Jul 29, 2022 | 6:00 AM

A brand new fire engine has joined the City of Grande Prairie Fire Department and will soon be responding to emergency scenes.

A 2022 Spartan Gladiator Classic Smeal Custom Pumper will be retiring a frontline engine that is due for replacement.

Deputy Fire Chief Trevor Grant says the truck was delivered to the city around two weeks ago.

“We are getting it set up with all of our equipment and getting it ready to put into service to serve the citizens of Grande Prairie.”

Grant says all members have been impressed with the layout and design of the new piece of equipment.

“So far the feedback from everybody that has seen the apparatus is pretty excited, we did have a committee that put the truck together and we tried to ensure that it was going to meet the needs of all our members and the city.”

The new engine will be stationed at Pete Eagar Fire Hall on Resources Road, which is the main station for Grande Prairie.

“It’s kind of the workhorse of our department and will be going to the majority of the calls that we do go to.”

Grant says the fire department has been quite busy responding to calls. In June they responded to 362 calls, which equals to around 12 per day.

He says there have been no major fire-related events the department has responded to in July, which he agreed is a good thing.

The new fire truck is expected to make its first appearance before the end of August.
