Aug 2, 2022 | 5:35 PM

The Grande Prairie Piranhas wound up ninth in the overall standings among the 51 clubs that took part in the Swimming Canada Junior and Senior Championships held in Montreal from July 25 to August 1.

The Piranhas won three gold medals, along with three silver and four bronze.

Dominik Kwiecien ended up with four medals at the competition after winning bronze in the 1500 metre freestyle and silver in the 1.5-kilometre open water swim in the 14-15 age group.

Jordan Greber picked up her third medal over the weekend as well, a silver in the 15-17 age group 200 metre backstroke.

A big summer for the Piranhas will continue this weekend as three club members; Kwiecien, Marissa Laurin, and Oliver Dawson will be part of Team Alberta at the Canada Summer Games.

They will be the first Piranhas to ever compete at the Summer Games. They start Saturday in Niagara, Ontario, and continue through August 21. The swimming competition goes from August 7 to 12.

Kwiecien will also be part of Team Canada at this fall’s World Junior Open Water Championships from September 16 to 18.

Seychelles will be the host country.
