Not guilty verdict in fraud, extortion case

Alberta Justice says two people from Manning have been found not guilty in an extortion and fraud case.

The charges against Seung Yoo and Kyung-Hae Yoo included fraud over $5000, extortion, altering a document and obstructing justice.

A not guilty decision was handed down in Peace River court after a trial was held in June.

They were charged on December 5, 2017, after Manning RCMP searched a business located on Main Street in Manning and seized several documents.

Aggravated assault charges against two accused dropped

Alberta Justice says aggravated assault charges against two women from Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation have been dismissed in Valleyview court.

Alyssa Cunningham and Tasha Movescamp-Mclean were charged after an incident on October 12, 2020.

Valleyview RCMP said at the time that a woman was assaulted by two other women.

The victim had to be treated for what police called severe injuries.

Police issued arrest warrants for the two accused on October 27 and they were arrested four days later.

Third suspect in bait vehicle arrest sentenced

Alberta Justice says a jail sentence has been given to a third suspect in a 2021 bait vehicle operation in Grande Prairie.

Allan Cloutier was given a six-month jail sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of theft over $5000. A charge of theft under $5000 was withdrawn.

Cloutier was also given a consecutive 60-day sentence after pleading guilty to charges of shoplifting and uttering threats to cause death and bodily harm.

Cloutier was one of three people arrested in a four-week-long bait vehicle operation last June.

RCMP said at the time that a bait vehicle was placed in what they termed strategic locations that were picked based on crime analysis.

Last December, Cheynee Mitchell was given 60 days time served in connection with the same arrest. Charges against Chad Mitchell were withdrawn in April.
