Local economic region bucks provincial and national trends, sees higher jobless rate in July

The Western Alberta economic region, which includes Grande Prairie and the Peace region bucked both the national and provincial trends when it came to unemployment figures in July.

The local region saw its jobless rate increase to 5.4 per cent in July, compared to 4.5 per cent in June.

The Western Alberta region, along with the Camrose/Drumheller region, were the only ones in Alberta that saw their unemployment rate increase in July.

The jobless rate for all of Alberta was down one-tenth of a point to 4.8 per cent, compared to 4.9 per cent in June.
