Nine people from the Peace part of Team Alberta at Canada Summer Games

Eight athletes and a coach from the Peace will be part of Team Alberta at the Canada Summer Games.

The games start Saturday with the opening ceremony and will run through August 21 in Niagara, Ontario.

Three swimmers from the Grande Prairie Piranhas will be there. They are Ollie Dawson and Dominik Kwiecien from Grande Prairie and Marissa Laurin from the County of Grande Prairie. They are the first Piranhas ever picked for a Canada Summer Games team.

The swimming competition starts Sunday and goes through Friday, August 12.

Grande Prairie’s Maero Onwah is on the men’s basketball team. Basketball starts Monday and goes through August 13.

Brownvale’s Josh Kinnee will be joined on the men’s softball team by Aaron Charchuk and Owen Cox from Grande Prairie.

Men’s softball starts August 16 and will wrap up August 21.

Grande Prairie’s Mairen Lawson is on the road cycling team. It starts August 16 and goes through August 20.

Grande Prairie’s Sam Tuivai is an assistant coach with the men’s indoor volleyball team. It starts August 16 and finish on August 21.
