Alberta claims 61 medals at 1st week of Canada Summer Games

NIAGARA, ON – Albertan athletes are off to a successful start at the Canada Summer Games.

The competition is being held in Niagara, Ontario, from August 6-21, 2022.

After the conclusion of the first week of the Games, athletes from the sunshine province have already won 61 medals. That includes 22 gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze.

The 61-medal count puts Team Alberta in third place nationally so far in the 2022 Canada Summer Games. Ontario is currently leading with 84 medals while B.C. comes in at second with 66.

Day seven, held on Friday, August 12, saw Team Alberta take third place in men’s soccer (6-1 vs. New Brunswick), women’s box lacrosse (4-2 vs. Nova Scotia), women’s mountain bike spring (Janaya Francis of Edmonton), and men’s open water swim (Dominik Kwiecien of Grande Prairie).

Alberta’s events on Saturday, August 13 include games five and six of men’s and women’s beach volleyball vs. Manitoba, the bronze medal tennis match vs. Ontario, the gold medal women’s basketball game vs. Saskatchewan, the bronze medal men’s basketball game vs. Nova Scotia, and the gold medal baseball game vs. Ontario.
