Aug 19, 2022 | 1:15 PM

A new program is now being offered at Grande Prairie’s Eastlink Centre for a specific group of people.

The City of Grande Prairie has partnered with the Alzheimer Society to offer it’s Minds in Motion program at the Centre.

The program is designed for those designated with early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease, or another dementia, and their care partner.

Participants do light physical activity to have mental stimulation in a social environment with their care partner, with the ultimate goal to improve balance, mobility, flexibility and alertness and increase their confidence.

There are certified fitness staff at Eastlink Centre that have received specialized training by the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories to instruct the course.

The General Manager of the Community Knowledge Campus, Angela Redding said in a news release; “Introducing Minds in Motion® at the Eastlink Centre is a huge milestone for our facility, and for the community.”

“We strive to be a state-of-the-art recreational facility for users of all ages and abilities, and we believe this program is a great addition to creating inclusivity and a high quality of life for all Grande Prairie residents,” she said.

The first classes are open for registration and will run for six sessions on Tuesdays from September 13 to October 18. Available dates for the program can be found by clicking here.
