Fire advisory in Grande Prairie Forest Area

Aug 24, 2022 | 6:18 PM

Due to the upcoming forecasted hot and dry weather, the Grande Prairie Forest Area is now under a fire advisory and the wildfire danger classified as very high.

All fire permits have been suspended with the exception of current burn barrel, smudges and smoke house permits.

New fire permits will not be issued unless significant rainfall is received in the region and essential burning will be considered on a case by case basis during this time.

Any burning without a permit is prohibited, besides safe campfires, backyard fire pits, portable propane fire pits, gas/propane stoves and barbeques, and catalytic or infrared-style heaters.

There are four active wildfire burning in the GPFA and all are under control. They are soon to be extinguished and have been completely contained.

Smoky conditions in the province are being caused by wildfires in British Columbia as well as winds, you can see an interactive smoke forecast map over North America by clicking here.
