Hunt for Hospice

In-person and virtual scavenger hunt to raise $15,000 for GP Palliative Care Society

Sep 5, 2022 | 11:20 AM

The Grande Prairie Palliative Care Society is hosting their first ever Hunt for Hospice this month to raise money for their hospice programs.

$15,000 is the goal the Society is hoping to raise in their major fundraising event this year.

Fallon Weislein, Volunteer Coordinator with GPPCS says the funds will be going towards furnishings in the Prairie Lakes Hospice and palliative care.

“Donations from this event will to our hospice programs and equipment purchases for hospice. The Prairie Lakes Hospice desperately needs new lift recliners and smart televisions in each of the ten resident suites, two family rooms and common space as they are simply worn out from use.”

“It’s good to have functioning items to make sure that people are comfortable and their families are comfortable while they’re in hospice,” she says.

The scavenger hunt event will be done in two formats; virtually and in-person. The virtual hunt will be open September 12-16 and the in-person event will be on September 17, starting at 11:00 a.m. around Grande Prairie.

The in-person hunt will be done in teams searching for things around the city through riddles and jokes, taking pictures of places and answering short questions to acquire points.

“Teams will earn prizes by getting the most points as well as having the most creativity. So even if teams don’t get a lot of points, if they have a lot of fun and turn in really cool pictures, then they will also get grand prizes.”

“A lot of the time palliative care and hospice are taboo subjects and people don’t really think about them until it’s necessary, so getting a little bit of education about them and doing it in a fun manner is going to be really exciting so we can hopefully reach a bigger audience than we usually do,” Weislein adds.

It is $25 per adult to register for the Hunt for Hospice, children 12 and under are free to participate.

Swag bags and t-shirts are also being sold to raise money for the GPPCS.
