County inviting residents to apply for their boards and committees

Sep 7, 2022 | 8:00 AM

The County of Grande Prairie is inviting its residents to contribute their expertise and participate in local government by sitting on a board or committee in the County.

Public members, as known as members at large are needed to fill vacancies in the:

  • Agricultural Service Board
  • County Library Board
  • County – Hythe – Demmitt – Valhalla Advisory Board
  • Historic Resources Committee
  • Joint Assessment Review Board
  • West Grande Prairie County Solid Waste Authority

Reeve Leanne Beaupre says the vacancies come from several members at large that are coming up on their end-of-term appointments.

“There’s an opportunity to help County Council make some decisions around investments, whether it’s in recreation, agriculture, or even around some capital projects that we will be doing in the future.”

“People that have an interest in the County of Grande Prairie as long as are a taxpayer in the County they’re eligible to apply to any of the boards, some of them do require a little bit of education so there might be some commitment of time to be educated for the specific board, but for the most part, it’s given to them as part of being on the board,” Beaupre adds.

She says terms come up every year before October before the County’s organizational meeting for the year.

“It’s a really great opportunity for anybody that’s trying to get involved in local politics and they can give back to their communities.”

Beaupre says there is also compensation for participation on County committees and boards as well.

Interested individuals can apply until September 30 for one or more of the available opportunities by clicking here.

County Council will be appointing members at large on October 24 at their annual organizational meeting.
