Here’s how many people voted to pick the Conservative Party of Canada’s next leader

Sep 8, 2022 | 7:33 AM

OTTAWA — The Conservative party’s next leader will be chosen by nearly 418,000 members.

The party released the final figure today, after a deadline arrived earlier this week for party members to return their mail-in ballots.

More than 430,000 ballots were sent back, but some were rejected because members didn’t include proper identification, which is required to vote.

The number of votes sets a new record for the party, which announces its next leader on Saturday.

The statement from the Conservatives says tens of thousands of new memberships have been purchased during the leadership campaign and the updated voters list now contains more than 678,700 names.

That means the party’s next leader will be chosen through a voter turnout of nearly 62 per cent.
