Local hockey teams have been warming up for the year with some pre-season action.

NWJHL

Two pre-season games were played this weekend in the North West Junior Hockey League.

The Fort St John Huskies beat the Sexsmith Vipers 3-2 on Friday night, but the Vipers bit back against the Beaverlodge Blades Saturday, winning 10-0.

The league pre-season showcases are set for this upcoming weekend (September 16-18) in High Level and Grande Cache.

North Peace (Peace River), Sexsmith, and La Crete will battle in High Level, while Grande Prairie, Dawson Creek, Fairview, and Fort St. John will play in Grande Cache.

Game tickets are just $10 at the gate in both locations.

AJHL

The Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League played their final pre-season game on September 9 on the road.

They lost 4-2 to the Bonnyville Pontiacs, but the Storm will look to bounce back at their home opener on September 16.

They will be facing off in the Bonnett’s Energy Centre both Friday and Saturday, for a doubleheader to kick off the regular season.

Game times are Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m.
