Day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral to be observed locally

Sep 18, 2022 | 7:00 AM

There will be commemorations Monday to mark the day of the funeral for Queen Elizabeth II in London.

On Monday, the Royal Canadian Legion will be remembering the Queen with ceremonies at the cenotaph in Jubilee Park.

The event will start at 10:30 a.m. with marchers going to their position at 10:45 a.m. The mayor will arrive at 10:50 a.m., and at 11:00 a.m. there will be a moment of silence (two-minute duration).

If any veterans, Canadian Armed Forces, Commissionaires, RCMP, or cadets wish to join the colour guard in the march, they should be at the Royal Canadian Legion by 10 a.m.

Anyone attending the ceremonies is asked to dress formally if they can.

Respectful clothing will be necessary if you want to attend.

Individuals may also place poppies or wreaths at the base of the cenotaph after the official ceremonies are finished.

After all the events are complete, people will be invited to the Canadian Legion Branch No. 54 for refreshments and comradeship.

The County of Grande Prairie will have a moment of silence at 10 a.m. to coincide with the provincial ceremony.

All County facilities will remain open and anyone from the public who might be there at the time is asked to join in the tribute.
