Fire restrictions lifted in Grande Prairie region

Rain over the weekend and colder temperatures have led both the province and the County of Grande Prairie to lift fire restrictions that were in place for the region.

The wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie Forest Management area is currently low.

There have been 70 wildfires so far this year in the GP Forest Management area, burning a total of 98 hectares.

County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire service reminds residents though that burning is not permitted when winds reach or are forecast to reach 12 km per hour or higher.

They also remind residents that permits are required for burning during fire season.
