Grande Prairie first municipality in Alberta to adopt Green Bag solution

Grande Prairie will be the first municipality in Alberta to adopt the Green Bag solution and will join 600 municipalities across Canada that are already taking part.

This program was brought to Grande Prairie by a partnership between Nespresso Canada and Aquatera Utilties Inc.

Residents can now take their capsules, put them in a green bag, and set them either on top of their blue bags on the curb or bring them to a designated drop-off point in Grande Prairie.

Vaughn Bend, Chief Executive Officer of Aquatera Utilties Inc said in a press release, “As a leader in the industry, we are excited to offer this new curbside recycling program. Nespresso bringing this Green Bag initiative forward in Grande Prairie highlights their confidence in our collective commitment to sustainability and extended producer responsibility.”

The Green Bag solution will take people’s Nespresso capsules and recycle the aluminum and turn the excess coffee grounds into high-grade compost.

Mayor Jackie Clayton said in a news release, “When introduced to the Green Bag program earlier this spring, there was no question that Grande Prairie wanted to be part of this innovative solution.”

This program will come with no extra cost to residents in GP, as all the additional costs are taken on by Nespresso.
