Grande Prairie resident set to represent Canada at Miss Globe World pageant

Sep 26, 2022 | 2:02 PM

The Miss Globe World pageant begins this Thursday in Albania, and a Grande Prairie resident will be representing Canada in that competition.

20-year-old Serenity Davis was recruited two years ago by former Miss Canada Globe winner Hailey Hamelin-Wilson, who grew up on the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.

Davis was crowned Miss Globe Canada last September and is looking forward to the experience of competing in the world finals.

“I am very excited. I am not going to lie I am nervous. Just getting out of that comfort zone and putting myself out there on a world stage. It is kind of nerve-wracking, but I have been so extremely busy. I just returned from training in the Philippines for three weeks and just returned to Canada 3-4 days ago.”

That training included walking on the catwalk, interviews, and other areas that will be featured in the Miss Globe World competition, which runs until October 15th.

She is looking forward to meeting the other competitors in this year’s pageant.

“There are 52 contestants from all over the world, and I am very excited. I met Miss Philippines while I was training there and she is a very nice lady. And I am excited to meet the other girls that are competing, just to start some friendships. The sisterhood that we create through pageantry is very important.”

Davis is also looking forward to getting to tour Albania and the entire experience that comes with competing in the Miss Globe World pageant.

She hopes to use her participation in the pageant to raise the profile of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women.

“There is a lot of awareness put out there throughout Canada, but to be raising that awareness on an international stage is very important to me as an indigenous woman and as having family members that have went missing and these types of things. It is something that really touches home for me.”

She also wants to raise the issue of mental health and making sure the resources we have in Canada are available in other countries as well.

When she returns back to Canada, Davis wants to play an active role in mentoring or helping other young women that might be interested in being a future Miss Globe Canada contestants.

Davis is also looking for sponsors to help with some of the expenses that come with traveling to and taking part in this competition.
