Albertans to have improved access to X-rays and ultrasounds
The provincial government is making changes that will give Albertans greater access to diagnostic imaging like X-rays, ultrasounds, and fluroscopies.
Chiropractors, physiotherapists, and audiologists will now refer these tests. The current policy requires patients to see a physician to obtain a referral for diagnostic imaging that is paid for by the government.
Health Minister Jason Copping says, “This change is about removing barriers and easing pressures on primary health care.”
It is believed that having more health care professionals provide publicly funded referrals for diagnostic imaging will alleviate congestion in the system and improve patient access to diagnosis and treatment.
