Several events planned to mark National Day of Truth & Reconciliation

There are a number of events planned for Friday to mark the National Day of Truth and reconciliation.

The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre is hosting events that will go all day, starting with a pancake breakfast and monument unveiling starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Gardens.

A barbecue starts at noon at the Muskoseepi Park Amphitheatre. An event that will include presentations from residential school survivors will follow starting at 1 p.m.

The Orange Shirt Day 5km Walk/Run starts at 4 p.m. then there is chilli and Bannock back at the Veteran’s Memorial Gardens starting t 5:30.

There is an Orange Shirt Day event in Sexsmith. It will start at 11 a.m. at the downtown gazebo. There will be speeches, dancers, tea and Bannock.

There will also be a Truth and Reconciliation Day ceremony at the Professional Bull Riders event Friday at the Bonnett’s Energy Centre.

There will be a grand entry before the 7 p.m. event start time that will include dancers, drummers, and a presentation from a residential school survivor.

People coming to the bull riding Friday night are asked to wear an orange shirt in recognition of the day.
