‘Walking together:’ Governor General to attend Regina reconciliation event

Sep 29, 2022 | 2:03 AM

REGINA — Gov. Gen. Mary Simon is to be among those speaking today at a Truth and Reconciliation event in Regina.

Miyo-wiciwitowin Day is to be held at Mosaic Stadium and aims to bring together 10,000 high school students, business leaders and members of the public.

The organizing committee says the day’s name draws on a Cree phrase that means “walking together in a good way,” or reconciliation.

The event is meant to educate people ahead of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Friday.

On Wednesday, Simon visited the James Smith Cree Nation northeast of Saskatoon, where members continue to grieve loved ones killed in a stabbing rampage earlier this month.

Today’s event is to include remarks from RoseAnne Archibald, national chief of the Assembly of First Nations along with survivor stories and performances from Indigenous artists.
