PBR returns to Grande Prairie this weekend

Sep 30, 2022 | 6:00 AM

Bull riding takes over the Bonnett’s Energy Centre this weekend.

It is hosting a Professional Bull Riders Cup Series event for the third time.

BC Peace cowboy Jake Gardiner is the defending champion.

“I’m pretty excited. Grande Prairie is kind of a honey hole for me. I have a lot of luck at the rodeo and the PBR.”

“Last year, the PBR was great. It was a full house and it was action-packed so I’m excited to get back there. The fans in Grande Prairie are phenomenal so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Gardiner says the season has been pretty good so far.

“I’ve been kind of back and forth (between Canada and the US). I spent a little more time here this summer. My riding hand, I injured it so I had to lay off a few weekends and let that heal up a bit.”

“I can’t complain. It’s been a pretty good season so far.”

Gardiner says he has been back in the Peace in recent days doing some hunting.

“I love this time of year up here. It’s really pretty right now.”

Logan Biever from Claresholm, Alberta leads the PBR Canada standings, followed by Calgary’s Nick Tetz, Blake Smith from Abbey, Saskatchewan, and Eatonia Saskatchewan’s Dakota Buttar. Tetz has won two events in a row.

The start time will be 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights.

Tickets are available through the Bonnett’s Energy Centre box office and website.
