The County of Grande Prairie is getting ready to host the 100th annual Fire Prevention Week

The County of Grande Prairie is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week starting October 9.

County Regional Fire Services is inviting the public to join firefighters and County Staff in open house events, where you can tour the fire station, visit with firefighters and learn about how to create an escape plan from your home in the event of a fire.

  • Saturday, October 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Pancake breakfast hosted by the Clairmont Fire Station at the Wellington Resource Centre
  • Sunday, October 9 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Barbecue hosted at the Wembley Fire Department
  • Tuesday, October 11 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    • Barbecues hosted at the Sexsmith Fire Department and Bezanson Fire Station
  • Friday, October 14 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    • Finger food and appetizers hosted at the Hythe Fire Station
  • Sunday, October 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    • Pancake breakfasts hosted at the La Glace Fire and Teepee Creek Fire Stations

This year’s theme is “Fire won’t wait, Plan your escape”, which focuses on educating residents about simple steps they can take to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

The County Regional Fire Service is also recruiting full-time paid responders, those who are interested in becoming a paid responder can use these events to chat with fire personnel about training and requirements.
