New building presents chance to rebrand Composite High School

Oct 4, 2022 | 1:15 PM

To go along with the construction and recent opening of the new Composite high school in Grande Prairie, a rebranding exercise was undertaken over the past two years.

It resulted in the school teams being rebranded as the Phoenix, after being known as Warriors for several years.

Principal Dennis Vobeyda says as part of the entire process, they will be reaching out to the community to help them develop the school’s mission, vision, values, and goals.

“We are spending time working with our students because it is not made in isolation. When we talk about what I believe it means to be a Phoenix, I am not the one that decides that. It is our community, it is our school body. And we work together to establish that. We are hoping to have something in place by the early part of January that we will be sharing with the community as well. Just like what we did when we re-branded the school. We spent two years working on the re-branding with our community members.”

Vobeyda describes what he feels it means to be a Phoenix.

“For us, it was that play on words of rising up from the old building, so sort of from the ashes of the old rises anew. And it is a fresh start for so many things. The old building was built in 1963, so it was definitely time for a new building.”

“But it is important to respect tradition, and that is one reason why we retained the colours of orange, black, and white. Those are the original colours.” added Vobeyda.
