Toews optimistic ahead of Thursday’s election

MLA for Grande Prairie-Wapiti Travis Toews, a front runner in the United Conservative Party election to replace Jason Kenney, is looking forward to the polls on Thursday.

Only those who purchased an Alberta UCP membership before August 12 are able to vote for the new leader, as mail-in ballots should have been received on Monday, October 3.

Toews says he ran a significant and good campaign since he announced his intention to run on May 31.

“I’ve traveled around the province multiple times in the past three months, meeting with really great Albertans hearing their concerns and vision for the future of the province.”

“I’m incredibly optimistic about the future prospects for Alberta. I see our economy really getting its legs under it. We are seeing economic diversification at rates I’ve probably never seen in my lifetime.”

He says now is the time for strong, proven leadership.

“Uniting our party and movement is going to be critical… that’s really job number one.”

The seven candidates held two separate forums, which can be viewed on the UCP website as well as candidate information, and how to vote, and will have the election night event live-streamed on October 6 at around 5:30 p.m.
