Todd Loewen hopeful to win leadership and become Premier on Thursday

Oct 5, 2022 | 10:30 AM

The United Conservative Party of Alberta election for the leadership of their party and replacement of Jason Kenney happens on Thursday, October 5.

MLA for Central Peace – Notley Todd Loewen says he’s awaiting the results and wanting to carry on with government work.

“There’s lots of work to do and it seems like we’ve been on hold for a while and it’s unfortunate we have lots to do.”

Loewen believes his campaigning went well.

“We ran a positive campaign, we were able to cover the province really well. I still always wish we had more time and more area covered but I believe we have done good and had a positive message.”

He says the support is good around home, but found strong followers across Alberta.

“I ran to win, and so I hope that I’d be chosen as the premier… but I understand that there’s only going to be one out of seven of us (candidates) that will. If I’m not the one chosen, then I will be supporting whoever is,” Loewen notes.

He says he looks forward to the party moving on and getting back together to win the 2023 provincial election.

The election night event will be live-streamed on October 6 at around 5:30 p.m. on the Alberta UCP website.
