150 GPPSD students saluted at annual awards night

Oct 12, 2022 | 6:00 AM

The Grande Prairie Public School District says 150 students were saluted at its 21st annual Striving for Excellence awards night.

The GPPSD Education Foundation hosted 550 attendees October 5, the first in-person event since 2019.

The division says these awards are not just about marks but recognize individual excellence and success.

Grade 8 student Hannah Ungstad won the Outstanding Student Award.

“It truly means a lot to me, and I owe it all to my friends, family, and especially teachers – they are an inspiration,” says Ungstad in a release from the GPPSD.

Another Grade 8 student, Janee Bauman, won a Striving for Excellence award.

“Winning a Striving for Excellence Award means I am being recognized for putting forth the effort. Because as long as you are trying in school, I feel like that is going to put you farther ahead in life than just getting good grades,” says Bauman in that same release.

Award winners are nominated by administration and their teachers.
