Air quality statement issued for Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for the Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview forecast area.

It is recommended people take precautions to reduce their exposure to the smoke.

The weather office expects conditions to improve tonight (Wednesday).

BC Wildfire says there are four out-of-control fires in the BC Peace. That includes one west of Moberly Lake that has scorched over 1,100 hectares.

There is another west of Hudson’s Hope that has burned close to 1,670 hectares. It is north of the Peace River, across from the Battleship Mountain fire which has burned almost 37,000 hectares. It is listed as being held.

There is also an out-of-control 220-hectare wildfire that is burning south of Chateh. Fire watchers say it is not a threat to the community. There are four other active wildfires in the High-Level Forest Area, Two are being held, and two are under control.

The Grande Prairie Forest Area had five active fires as of yesterday but all five were listed as being held or under control.
