Boil water advisory lifted for Town of Sexsmith

Oct 27, 2022 | 8:47 PM

UPDATE: The boil water advisory has been lifted.

Aquatera says to still take precautions before consuming water after the boil water advisory is lifted.

Residents should flush, clean, and sanitize all areas that may have had contact with water.

  • Turn on all taps and flush water lines for at least five minutes (10 minutes if you live in an apartment building).
  • Read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for flushing, cleaning, and sanitizing cisterns (containers that store drinking water), water filters, and ice and water dispensers.
  • Drain and refill hot-water tanks that are set below 45ºC.
  • Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer.

UPDATE: Aquatera says it expects the boil water advisory in Sexsmith to stay in place until Sunday night or Monday morning. The company says water has been delivered to schools and seniors’ homes.

UPDATE: Aquatera says potable water is available at the Sexsmith Fire Hall. Each household can get up to five gallons. People are asked to bring their own containers.

Aquatera has issued a boil water advisory for the Town of Sexsmith.

The advisory will stay in place until further notice. No reason was given for why it was put in place.

Aquatera says water must come to a rolling boil for a full minute before it can be used for things like drinking, washing food or brushing teeth.

Water used for bathing or washing clothes does not need to be boiled. The water can still be used to wash hands, if soap is used with it and hand sanitizer is used afterwards.

Aquatera also says the bulk water station is out of service temporarily.

Anyone needing such a facility can use the stations in Grande Prairie or Dimsdale instead.
