Highlights from Halloween’s Grande Prairie City Council meeting include:
- Council has approved making some land on 105 Avenue near 100 Street marketable and to sell it to the Woodland Cree Nation for $340,000. This would be for a housing project. The land was purchased by the City in 2019 for a possible permanent supportive care project. The City decided the land was no longer needed with the subsequent purchase of the former Stonebridge Hotel, known as the Coordinated Care Campus. The deal is subject to conditions.
- Council has agreed to forward two funding requests from the Grande Prairie Curling Centre to 2023 budget talks. One is for $117,279 in extra operational funding. The other is for $28,500 for a feasibility study. Councillor Dylan Bressey said at the meeting the rink has had challenges with utility costs for the last couple of years.
- Council has approved zoning changes for four hectares of land beside the Cobblestone East subdivision and south of 100 Avenue. The changes will allow for single detached homes, along with semi-detached and duplexes on some of the land, and more condensed housing with up to 12 units per building on the rest. The land had been zoned for manufactured homes.
