The City of Grande Prairie and DownTown Association is bringing back an annual holiday tradition, with a few changes this year.

They will be hosting the Christmas Tree Light-Up on Sunday, November 27 at Bonnett’s Energy Centre and the H. A Rice Plaza.

Downtown Association Executive Director, Wendy Bosch said in a release; “To kick it off (holiday season) in tradition, please join us for the Annual Tree Lighting, along with, free hot chocolate & cookies, music, and of course our favorite person to take a photo with, Santa!”

The event and festivities start at 4 p.m. with the tree lighting taking place at 4:30 p.m.

Residents can take free photos with Santa inside the Bowes and receive hot chocolate, candy canes, gingerbread cookies and family day passes to the Eastlink Centre from Storm players and City Councillors.

Following the lighting ceremony, the Battle of the Badges hockey game will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Bonnett’s between the Grande Prairie Firefighters and RCMP.

Mayor Jackie Clayton said in a news release; “We look forward to welcoming our friends, families, neighbors, and more to join us for this festive occasion and Battle of the Badges game to kick off the holiday season.”

To get into the game you can donate online by clicking here starting November 10, or in person with a minimum donation of $5 a person and $10 per family, with all donations going to the 3D Children’s Charity.

The City and DownTown Association said in the same release they look forward to welcoming residents to City Centre for this annual holiday tradition.
