Evergreen Park receives Agricultural Society Innovation award

Evergreen Park was recently presented with an Alberta Agriculture Societies Innovation award from the province.

Former General Manager and current consultant with Evergreen Park Dan Gorman says they received the award for the different and creative ideas they used in keeping the doors open and some of their staff employed during the pandemic.

“We met every week with our core staff and asked them to come up with creative ideas. We had everything from TARA take-out meals that were done on a weekly basis and on special occasions. We fixed and renovated and repaired every little scratch or ding and nick that needed to be fixed. We had people that became painters or plumbers or cleaners just to help keep all of our core staff there.”

Gorman adds the pandemic also gave them the opportunity to try some new ideas.

“We made an agreement to have Grande Sunset Theatre, who built a huge, outdoor movie screen for us. We had a deal with Elevation Sled Dogs to come out and do sled dog tours throughout the park for their customers and guests. We also worked with disc golf to encourage and work with them on building their world-class disc golf facility that opened during the pandemic. “

Gorman says being able to keep as many staff as possible during the pandemic was very important to them.

“Make no mistake, we had to lay off a number of staff especially part-time staff and key staff, right at the beginning. But we just worked so hard to come up with different ideas and different programs that would be a benefit to the community and allow us to get those staff back and retain them after that.”

Gorman says it was a team effort, and he thanks the entire team at Evergreen Park for their efforts and ideas to not only keep themselves employed, but also stay active and stay involved within the community.
