So far, so good says Pilat of return to council

Nov 8, 2022 | 6:00 AM

The October 31 meeting of Grande Prairie city council marked the first full meeting for Wade Pilat after his return to council.

He was re-elected in the October by-election.

When asked how his return had been, he said so far, so good.

“I’m glad I had a term before (this one). The learning process would have been a little much.”

“For me, it’s been great because I’ve been able to work with the senior staff and get up to speed on most things that maybe I wasn’t as aware of (after) my pause on council for a year.”

Pilat previously served on council from 2017 to 2021. We asked him why he decided to run in the by-election after deciding not to run in the 2021 municipal election.

“I guess just the timing of life with John’s (Lehners) unfortunate passing gave me the opportunity again but just the timing of life was a big part of it.”

Pilat says he wants to see council’s priorities move ahead.

“I’ve taken quite a bit of time to review the strategic plan that this council put forward and I felt that I aligned really well with it. I think I’m here mostly, I’m hoping to be here mostly, to help move some of those priorities forward.”

“(I will) probably concentrate more on provincial advocacy but I like the overall strategic plan that’s in place by the council.”

Pilat says it was too soon to say which ones in particular he would like to work on.

City council is scheduled to next meet on November 14 with 2023 budget talks set for November 15 through 17.
