Trudeau arrives in Indonesia for G20 summit with aim of further isolating Russia

Nov 14, 2022 | 12:38 AM

DENPASAR, Indonesia — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has arrived in Bali, Indonesia today for the G20 leaders’ summit.

His plane left Cambodia an hour and a half late, which his office says is due to issues clarifying the flight path.

Trudeau says his top goal is to pressure Russia to end its war in Ukraine.

Russia will send its foreign minister Sergey Lavrov to the summit, and Trudeau says he has little interest in meeting him.

The G20 involves the world’s largest economies, including some who say they don’t want to take sides in the conflict and maintain ties with Russia.

Trudeau’s trip to Southeast Asia is meant to counterbalance China’s influence in Canada, and Trudeau has not said whether he wants to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 summit.
