AHS recruits a new psychiatrist for Grande Prairie

Nov 15, 2022 | 12:38 PM

Alberta Health Services says a new psychiatrist is now practicing in Grande Prairie, meaning more access to mental health support with this recruitment.

Dr. Anne-Marie Grew will be based out of the addiction and mental health offices in the Aberdeen Centre as well as providing care from the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Grew said in a news release, “Mental health continues to be at the forefront of medicine and cultural awareness here in Alberta and I’m looking forward to continuing the good work in the community that my colleagues have been doing.”

She’s originally from Northern Ireland and received her medical training in Scotland at the University of Aberdeen.

AHS says she and her family now reside in Grande Prairie, where they are enjoying a newfound love for hockey and looking forward to cross-country skiing.

Her recruitment was part of an AHS strategy to find more dedicated healthcare workers for Alberta’s North Zone, both internationally and domestically.

Grande Prairie MLA Tracy Allard said in the same news release, “Along with AHS and the community, the Government of Alberta is dedicated to improving mental health services in Grande Prairie, Welcoming Dr. Grew to Grande Prairie is an important part of that work.”

Grande Prairie is now home to eight psychiatrists, two of which specialize in children and adolescents.
