Grande Prairie Regional Hospital gifted Nintendo Switch for children’s hospital stays

Nov 18, 2022 | 12:20 PM

An entertainment program through Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada is now helping make difficult hospital stays for children, a bit easier.

The Nintendo Switch Handheld program is now in the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, which has been generously donated by the Ardene Foundation.

The gaming system is portable and accessible in all areas of the hospital to give pediatric patients a sense of normalcy while facing stressful situations.

The devices are infection-control friendly, being able to wipe down all surfaces easily with germicidal wipes.

Starlight Canada has been helping children cope with serious illness for over 30 years and has programmed the gaming system with hours of endless entertainment.

In 2021, the Foundation delivered 50 “Fun Centers”; mobile entertainment units with flat-screen TVs for multimedia play to 29 Canadian children’s hospitals.

The Nintendo Switch Handheld program aims at being more portable and a solution for children to decompress and be a positive distraction during taxing times.
