Nitehawk opening highlights weekend sports schedule

Nitehawk plans to open for the season on Saturday and Sunday. The ski hill is open from 11-5 both days and lift tickets will be $20. Willoway, Bob’s Bump, and the Terrain Park are all open. More information is available on Nitehawk’s Facebook page.

The Tube Zone is open from 12:30-2:30 and 3-5 both days. Tube Zone passes must be booked in advance on Nitehawk’s website.

Hockey

The Storm host Lloydminster Friday night at 7 and Saturday night at 6, both at Bonnett’s Energy Centre. The Storm enter the weekend just two points back of the Bobcats for sixth in the North Division.

The North Peace Hockey League schedule from Discover the Peace Country Friday, Manning at Valleyview and Fort St. John at Falher. Saturday, Grande Prairie in Fort St. John, Spirit River in Manning, Valleyview at Dawson Creek, Falher at Grimshaw.

Thursday night, the Grande Prairie Athletics beat previously unbeaten Dawson Creek 5-4 in a shootout. The home win leaves the A’s 3-2 on the season, while the Canucks are 4-1.

In the Northwest Junior Hockey League Friday, Sexsmith in Fort St. John, Fairview in Beaverlodge, and La Crete in Peace River. Saturday, Fort St. John at the Wheat Kings, Dawson Creek in Beaverlodge, Fairview at La Crete and Sexsmith in Peace River. All games start at 8 pm.

Curling

The 50th annual Mile 0 City Cash Spiel will go Friday through Sunday in Dawson Creek. This is the second stop of the Peace Curling Tour. $40,000 in cash and prizes will be given out. First place gets $10,000. Updated scores can be found here.
