Dec 1, 2022 | 8:08 AM

Temperatures are expected to dip near minus 40 in the Peace region Thursday with very cold overnight temperatures persisting into the weekend.

Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings for most of northwestern Alberta.

Areas affected include:

  • Grande Prairie
  • Beaverlodge
  • Valleyview
  • Grande Cache
  • Hinton
  • Peace River
  • Fairview
  • High Prairie
  • Manning
  • High Level
  • Rainbow Lake
  • Fort Vermillion
  • Mackenzie Highway

Wind chill values will moderate during the day, so dress warmly and in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

Extreme cold warnings issued are to inform the public that there is an elevated health risk such as frostbite or hypothermia during very cold temperatures.

The weather office notes if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
