Beaverlodge introduces Justin Beaver and Beaverly!

After tough deliberations at the Beaverlodge council meeting on November 28, the town’s roadside attraction, the world’s largest beaver officially has a name… Justin Beaver!

The beaver mascot that makes appearances around town during events and celebrations has also been given the name Beaverly.

Mayor of Beaverlodge, Gary Rycroft says the names came from local students in Beaverlodge Elementary School and St. Mary Catholic School.

“We had a little competition with the schools in town and those were the top names from our young people.”

“The top name for the big beaver, Justin Beaver, was the one with the most votes, so naturally as council, we picked that one.”

Rycroft says the naming process caught a lot of people’s attention… as well as an addition to Justin Beaver made on Thursday; a scarf the perfect size has been placed on him for the cold weather.

Rycroft says it’s a mystery as to who gave Justin Beaver the cozy scarf, “there’s always a surprise around here!”
