Mixed results in latest jobs numbers from Statistics Canada

Dec 2, 2022 | 12:40 PM

The economy added 10-thousand jobs in November.

That’s double what economists had expected.

Statistics Canada reports the national unemployment rate fell from 5.2 per cent in October to 5.1 per cent.

The employment situation is a little more cloudy in Alberta, which saw its jobless rate increase from 5.2 per cent in October to 5.8 per cent in November.

That is despite five of the seven economic regions showing improvements in their numbers, including the region that includes Grande Prairie and the Peace Region.

It went from a 5.7 unemployment rate in October to 5.6 per cent last month.

Red Deer was the only economic region that saw it’s jobless rate increase in November, going from 5.5 per cent to 6.2 per cent.

Edmonton’s rate held steady at 4.9 per cent.
