Dec 6, 2022 | 6:00 AM

The County of Grande Prairie has selected a new Director of Community Services.

Darryl Martin has been chosen for the job and is no stranger to the area, having raised his family in Beaverlodge.

Joulia Whittelon, Chief Administration Officer for the County said in a news release, “Darryl has tremendous experience working with various stakeholders, all levels of government, and leading emergency response initiatives. We look forward to the expertise that Darryl brings to the County.”

Martin is making the transition from AHS, where he spent 15 years working for emergency response management. He has extensive experience leading emergency teams in the Slave Lake, Fort McMurray, and High Level fires; as well as other events such as floods, widespread utility disruption, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also served as an air ambulance paramedic on both the ground and air crews for 19 years with Alberta Emergency Medical Services.

He said in the same news release “The County is a busy and dynamic organization, but I believe that my experience will be an asset in supporting the initiatives that are underway in the Community Services department and the organization as a whole.”

He officially overtakes the duties of Director of Community Services on January 3, 2023.
