Mercer names new Director of Mill Operations

Mercer Peace River has promoted from within to fill its vacant Director of Mill Operations position.

Joe Fawcett has been with the company for over 30 years, working predominately in the operations side as an operator and leader.

He first joined the company in 1992 as a Power and Recovery Shift Engineering, eventually being promoted to his most recent duties of Operational Excellence Manager in 2020.

During his time with the company, Fawcett has been heavily involved in a number of key projects, including their recovery boiler upgrade in 2011, as well as playing a key role in bringing the mill back into operation following an incident back in 2017.

Originally from Grimshaw, Fawcett was a graduate of the Fairview campus of Grande Prairie Regional College (now known as Northwestern Polytechnic), as a 4th Class Power Engineer, eventually earning his 1st Class ticket after years of self-study and experience.

In his new role as Director of Mill Operations – which was formerly known as Mill Manager – Fawcett will oversee all operations of the Peace River facility.

Fawcett will assume his new duties as of January 9th, replacing Shawn Elliott, who announced his retirement from the company earlier this year.
