Over 280 firearms removed from streets in and around Grande Prairie in 2022

Grande Prairie RCMP are calling 2022 a success with regards to removing guns off the street.

With a little over three weeks remaining in the year, both the city and rural detachments combined have seized 283 firearms this year.

Rifles accounted for the majority of firearms collected by police this year, with shotguns and other restricted firearms included within those numbers.

They add approximately 60 guns were held by police for safekeeping.

Mounties add while they know the majority of gun owners in the area are responsible and law abiding, efforts over the past 12 months were done to keep weapons from getting into the hands of the wrong people.
