EDMONTON – The brother of an Alberta man who was shot and killed by two Mounties says he’s disgusted a jury has found the two officers not guilty of manslaughter.

Constable Jessica Brown and Corporal Randy Stenger were also acquitted this morning of aggravated assault.

The officers shot Clayton Crawford 10 times in his pickup truck as he tried flee a rest stop near Whitecourt in 2018.

Both R-C-M-P officers testified that they thought Crawford was a suspect in a shooting the day before in the hamlet of Valhalla Centre.

They also said they feared for their safety when Crawford tried to drive away.

Crawford’s brother Clinton Crawford said outside court that he’s disappointed but not surprised by the verdict, as police often often walk away from fatal mistakes without consequences.

R-C-M-P spokesman Fraser Logan says the two officers were suspended with pay pending the outcome of the trial, and they are expected to soon be back on the force.
