Court update: Jail sentences given out in three cases

Dec 12, 2022 | 6:00 AM

A man charged in connection with several crimes has been given more jail time.

Alberta Justice says Tyren Field was handed a three-year term after earlier pleading guilty to a charge of armed robbery plus a six-month consecutive sentence after admitting to charges of shop breaking with intent, assault with a weapon and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

In April, he was given six months in jail on charges of arson damaging property, possession of stolen property under $5000, and resisting a peace officer.

RCMP said at the time that on October 2, 2021, a suspect with an edged weapon tried to rob a business located at 84 Avenue and Resources Road. A plexiglass barrier was broken but nothing was taken.

About a half-hour later, RCMP got a call about a break-in at a residential business in the County of Grande Prairie. A vehicle and tools were stolen. The suspect tried to assault the homeowner after being confronted but fled.

Just over an hour later, a vehicle was found on fire behind a school at 73 Avenue and 104A Street. It had been driven onto a field behind the school.

Jail sentence in drug arrest

Alberta Justice says one of the two people charged in a drug seizure in January of this year has been given a three-year jail sentence.

Floyd Bradley Dick of Clairmont pleaded guilty to three charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and two more of failure to comply on December 7. He will be in court again December 12 on a third failure to comply charge.

RCMP said at the time that on January 21, 2022, police spotted a suspicious vehicle while doing patrols in an industrial area in Clairmont.

Mounties said the male passenger in the car was someone they recognized and suspected of breaching conditions of a release order.

Police seized 15.6 grams of cocaine, eight grams of methamphetamine, and 2.4 grams of fentanyl during a search of that vehicle.

A stay of proceedings was put in place for the other person charged, Brandi Lyn Steidel, in June.

Jail sentence in stolen property arrest

One of the two men facing charges after a late October incident where a shot was fired at a vehicle was given a six-month jail sentence three days later in connection with another arrest.

Darcy Beckman from Saddle Hills County was sentenced on a charge of possession of stolen property over $5000.

He was one of two people charged with stolen property and failure to comply counts, plus a weapons charge after an arrest on September 8, 2021.

RCMP said at the time that two people were in possession of a stolen truck and had a firearm and ammunition inside.

That led to a property search that turned up another stolen truck with a loaded firearm inside, other stolen items, ammunition, and cocaine.

All charges against the second accused, Serena Locke, were dismissed.

Darcy and Colton Beckman are also facing charges after an incident on October 28.

Mounties were called to a report of a break-and-enter where one of the suspects fired a shot at the vehicle of the person who phoned in the report; no one was hurt.

The suspects were later found in a stolen truck and police seized a rifle and bear spray.

Colton has a court date set for December 12. Darcy has a bail hearing set for December 19.
